Hannover, Germany. Attractive, effective flooring starts with quality floor-laying workmanship. Which is why DOMOTEX 2015 (17 to 20 January) will once again feature the SKILLED TRADES HUB, an entire showcase tailored to professionals in the floor laying trade. Located in Hall 7, the HUB brings together all the latest trends and innovations of use and interest to parquet recliners, floor layers, painters, interior outfitters and sellers of flooring solutions. It is a platform where skilled practitioners can familiarize themselves with the latest floor covering materials, tools and laying techniques and pick up valuable tips and information that will help them in their daily work.
Professionals from these backgrounds visit DOMOTEX because they value the SKILLED TRADES HUB as a “one-stop-shop” where they can view, handle and test out a wide range of machines and tools for installing and removing flooring, not to mention all kinds of flooring installation materials, moldings, profiles, transparent surface coatings and other applications. What’s more, all the information they need to know about the latest trends and developments in parquet, wood and laminate flooring and outdoor flooring solutions is just a short walk away in halls 8 and 9.
All the latest innovations at a glance
In 2015, visitors involved in the floor laying trade will be able to get to grips with the latest innovations in application and installation technology more quickly and comprehensively than has been possible at previous DOMOTEX shows. That’s because all the innovations from this product category have now been added to the Innovations@DOMOTEX format and will be on show at a special Innovations@DOMOTEX area in Hall 9. They will also be profiled in a dedicated section of the Innovations@DOMOTEX Guide, which will be published shortly before the fair at www.domotex.de. Visitors from the skilled floor laying trades and the businesses that supply them will thus be able to learn about key innovations in the lead-up to DOMOTEX and hence plan their visits more efficiently.
Practical tips and information from flooring experts
At the Skilled Trades Forum, an integral part of the HUB, flooring tradespeople will have the opportunity to pick up a few practical pointers from their more experienced and specialized peers. There, on all four days of DOMOTEX 2015, they will be able gain an overview of the current issues and trends in their area of floor laying practice, learn about the everyday challenges and pitfalls of life on the job and discover the latest solutions for dealing with them. Among the specialists presenting at the Forum will be Thomas Allmendinger, an expert in screed, parquet and floor laying at the Ulm Chamber of Skilled Trades, who will report on the possibilities and limitations of accelerated screed systems each day at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Richard Kille, an expert in interior design and floor laying, will run a presentation each day at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. that will look below the surface of successful floor laying and explain the growing importance of proper substrate preparation. At 12 noon and 4 p.m. daily, Dr. Andreas Rapp, an expert in parquet reclining, will present a series of less-than-fortunate incidents from recent parquet reclining practice and explain the valuable lessons that can be learned from them. Of course, the Skilled Trades Forum would not be complete without its beloved quiz session. Held daily at 1 p.m., the quiz is a chance for Forum attendees to test their knowledge and go in the draw to win a number of attractive prizes. And, as always, there will be a beer garden, where flooring professionals can “talk shop” with their peers and exhibitors in a relaxed atmosphere. The Skilled Trades Forum is organized in association with the trade journal boden wand decke.
Apprenticeship initiative for the future of Germany’s floor laying trades
Germany’s floor laying trades are currently grappling with a growing shortage of skilled tradespeople and young apprentices. To counter this worrying trend, ZVPF, the country’s leading parquet and flooring association, this year launched a broad-based awareness campaign themed “Das ist Bodenhandwerk” (This is Floor Laying). The idea behind the campaign is to get young people thinking about careers in floor laying and interior outfitting and to actively broker apprenticeships and internships with firms operating in these trades. The organizers of the campaign will be running a display in Hall 6 at DOMOTEX 2015. Further information on the campaign (in German only) is available at www.das-ist-bodenhandwerk.de.
